Feature Story

Beginning of October this year, our BRDB Design Development Team were invited by SPACE to preview the latest hotel by Far East Hospitality called Oasia Hotel Downtown Singapore. Located in the heart of Singapore Central Business District, the new hotel is just a stone’s throw away from Raffles Place, Clarke Quay, Sentosa, Orchard Road and Marina Bay.

With architecture designed by WOHA, the building is quite a landmark. Its bold red façade and vegetation slipping through the vertical trellis seemed stark at first glance but when explained about the idea of a green ‘furry building’, one can immediately comprehend the bright idea. Once the creepers and vines climb higher and grow lusher, the building will eventually grow much greener against the flecks of red mesh in the background.

The design was intended to create a hotel that is more liveable and more than just a typical building. The ‘living tower’ is a take on a new way of building in the tropics. Predominantly, most skyscrapers are often associated with steel and glass. With this new example by WOHA, the deviation is clear, that is to create a tower, apt for its geographical context.

As we arrived at the main lobby, we were greeted by a spectacle of subdued pastel coloured interiors by renowned Spanish Interior Designer, Patricia Urquiola. With striking salmon pink coloured walls and patterned ceilings, the atmosphere was refreshing contrasting bright coloured furniture filling the ground space.

The ground main lobby is set rather differently, seamlessly integrating the lounge and restaurant spaces. The whimsical interior of Marmalade Pantry serves delectable bistro food from breakfast to dinner. Interestingly, the checking-in lobby is located separately from the ground main lobby at Level 12, a dedicated floor which also transfers guests to their rooms. If you’re a club member, you’ll be privileged to experience your own private pool and eatery too!

The rooms at Oasia Hotel Downtown Singapore are cosy and warmly designed. Again, Patricia has contrasted her palettes with monotones to match with the burnt orange wood finishes which are ubiquitously dominating in each room.

Following their main ethos of Far East Hospitality; refresh, refuel and recharge, the facilities here are well curated to offer more secluded swimming areas where you can relax and rejuvenate. Beautifully crafted private seating areas nestled within colourful cocooned nooks are a definite plus point for those who prefer their enjoyable me time in an urban setting. Head to Cin Cin for a drink, with a more glamourama treatment on space where the ambient is more flirty and seductive. For those gin lovers and curious tipplers, this is the hotspot that may suit your fancy.

All in all, Oasia Hotel Downtown has defined itself strongly to be the perfect place to stay for business and leisure. Not just a stylish hotel but a hotel that pushes comfort and with sustainability always in mind.
